Abstract

The useful life of a road is bound to the operation of the drainage system, in charge of gathering, to channel and to prepare the pluvial waters, avoiding damages to the road and the environment. The protection grade that should offer the drainage system depends on the economic and social importance of the road, for what a relationship exists among the category of the road and the probability of occurrence of the avenues that can put in risk the vehicular circulation. The rehabilitation of the tract Underdawn-Naranjito of the railroad Havana-Guanajay, conceives the step of the road of category II to category I, what supposes an increase in the flows to analyse. At the moment it is appreciable the deterioration caused by the superficial waters that makes necessary to evaluate the acting of the drainage system for the current and future conditions. The hydraulic performance of culverts is a complex process where multiple variables intervene, the computer application HY-8 allowed to know the acting of the culverts works for different conditions. The results reveal that three culverts of nine are able to evacuate the design flows, without producing damages to the embankment.
