INCORPORATION OF ARAMID FIBERS IN THE CONCRETE MIX FOR PAVEMENT

Today the durability and sustainability of highways constitute a challenge due to the importance that these mean for the economic development of any region. Rigid pavements with the addition of fibers are an important solution in this sense due to their high resistance to abrasion and flexion that these solutions provide. This work consists of studying the formulation of a concrete with aramid fibers based on local materials (cement, gravel, and sand) and its effect on the design of the slab. A study is presented where the concrete is reinforced by various percentages of Kevlar® 29 aramid fibers. 36 concrete samples are prepared, the contribution to workability and mechanical properties (compression resistance, indirect traction, and flexion) to over a time interval of 7 to 28 days using 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1% fibers. The results of this study highlighted a considerable improvement in mechanical properties compared to conventional concrete, but at certain percentages problems with workability and a slight drop in strength begin to appear.
