Application Of SUDS To Control Flood Risk On Urban Roads
Keywords:

The research focuses on flood risk control in urban roads in the city of Pasaje, located in Ecuador, taking into consideration the limited capacity of the drainage system due to increased peak flow and surface runoff during the rainy season. Therefore, there is a need to propose sustainable measures to minimize the impact of urban flooding. In this context, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) emerge as an excellent option for managing stormwater in urban roads. For the design of the rain garden, a methodology based on four processes was proposed: analysis of the existing condition of the study area, analysis of the urban watershed drainage network, SUDS proposal, and network connections and maintenance. The results obtained demonstrate that, to capture one cubic meter of runoff, the use of four rain gardens is required for an area of 9.34 hectares, each of which must have a surface area of 4.40 square meters. Furthermore, increasing the number of these units will allow for the evacuation of a greater volume of runoff.
