In Ecuador, asphalt pavements recycling through the incorporation of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is not a common practice, despite its benefits in reducing the use of new aggregates and saving asphalt, thus contributing to the preservation of natural resources. In this study, a hot-mix asphalt mixture was designed using the Marshall method, incorporating 30% RAP and 70% virgin aggregate. The process began with the characterization of the RAP and the new aggregate, determining the optimal combination to achieve a grading within the 19 mm range. Based on the aggregate grading, the theoretical asphalt content was estimated using the equations of the Asphalt Institute. Subsequently, briquettes were prepared according to the Marshall method, varying the asphalt content between 5.5% and 7.5% in 0.5% increments. Marshall properties and density and void analysis determined an Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) of 6.15%. The results were finally validated by manufacturing a new set of briquettes with this asphalt content, confirming compliance with the Marshall criteria for heavy traffic.
