Infrared Thermography To Correlate Asphalt Mixture Temperature And Environmental Conditions In Portoviejo

Infrared thermography, a technique that measures the temperature of objects at a distance by detecting the infrared radiation they emit without the need for visible light, was used to measure the temperature of asphalt pavements in different parts of the city. Simultaneously, ambient temperature and relative humidity were recorded, with the aim of developing a model that correlated the surface temperature of the pavement with the ambient temperature. After a statistical analysis, polynomial and linear models were evaluated, concluding that the linear model was the most appropriate, explaining 66.6% of the variability in pavement temperature. This model is useful to determine the critical temperature of the asphalt layer and adjust its resistance in the design of pavements according to the environmental conditions of Portoviejo. The results demonstrate that infrared thermography is an effective tool for the non-destructive evaluation of pavements and can contribute to the improvement of road conservation design and management.
