Methodological procedure for the cubing of land volumes in road works projects using ICT

The volumetric measurements represent one of the most important items in the geometric design of earthworks for the construction of road works, and they have a relevant influence on both the planning process and the time frame of the work. The calculation of the volumes of earth materials that must be excavated in loans and transferred to consumption centers is a relatively complex element, for whose solution computer programs have been created in conjunction with the increasingly accelerated advance of ICT. This article develops a procedure to cubize the volumes of work of earthworks by using Autodesk Land Desktop, a computer program granted with modules and tools for the development of projects, both in planning and for the control of the construction phases. It offers a more reliable, optimal and safe way of working in which civil engineers can be supported for their performance in the execution of the most demanding earthworks. Different criteria from various authors are analyzed in relation to the subject and each of the steps to be followed to apply the described procedure is explained in detail until the table of soil volumes is achieved. The importance of understanding each of the aspects discussed lies in complementing the design and execution phases with the help of ICT, whose case presented represents a modern way of measuring earthworks for road works.
