Abstract

This project presented a proposal for the design of an access road following the perimeter route of the Universidad Técnica de Manabí, solving the current lack of a road connecting the different areas of the university along this route. To implement the proposal, a topographic survey was conducted using a photogrammetric approach with a Mavic 2 Pro drone, further enhanced with high precision measurements obtained through GNSS RTK technology. The topography of the area provided insight into the characteristics and relief of the terrain designated for road construction. The road has been categorized as Collector IV, designed for a speed of 50 km/h and subsequently, the horizontal and vertical alignments were established using AutoCAD Civil 3D software, adhering to the parameters established in the Ecuadorian Highway Standard (NEVI-12). Data from existing soil samples collected during previous investigations indicated that the soil consists of a highly plastic silty material classified within the MH group, with laboratory tests revealing a California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of 5%. The AASHTO 93 method adopted by the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works was used in the design of the flexible pavement structure, and the calculation of the thicknesses of the subbase, base and asphalt layers was obtained.
