Masonry Reinforcement With Cement Mortar And Fibers.
Keywords:
axial compression, fiber, shear stressAbstract
Masonry remains an essential element in the construction sector today; however, it is also a source of failure under lateral loads. This has prompted many researchers to conduct numerous tests with varying reinforcement methods, including adding fibers to the mortar, the lining mortar, or applying them through mesh between the masonry wall and the lining.
This research presents the results of shear tests on ten low walls and compression tests on 12 clay brick prisms with cement mortar, with fibers added to the lining. All of these tests were monitored using LVDT transducers. It was evident that the addition of commercial PP fiber improved the shear and compression capacities of the specimens, while the specimens with recycled PET plastic fibers exhibited lower stresses than those without fibers. The samples with PET were stiffer, reflecting very high modulus of elasticity.
