Abstract

The tall and slender structures have a complex dynamic behavior in front of the action of wind load. Into this group, the chimneys due to his circular form are presented like structures highly sensitive to the wind. This structures’ components of the response of in front of the wind are the longitudinal and the cross-wind, the last is associated to the vortex shedding phenomenon. The current Cuban standard NC 285:2003 show limitations for the compute of circular structures sensitives to the dynamic actions. In the last months are developed by the committee of standard of wind of the MICONS research’s for the elaboration of an update for the standard NC 285. In the new proposal are proposed a methodology for the compute of this structures based in the Italian standard of wind (CNR-DT/207 2008) with formulations that bring a more level of accuracy for obtain the response of the structure in front of the wind action. In this paper is accomplished a comparison between the Cuban standard in use NC 285:2003 and the new proposal of standard as for the procedures for the compute of the wind load in his components longitudinal and cross-wind in a chimney. It was got as result that the longitudinal component compute by the standard in use its more than the new proposal of standard, however, the higher cross-wind forces are obtained when are computed by the new proposal of standard.
