INFLUENCE OF SOIL STRUCTURE INTERACTION IN A LOW-RISE BUILDING
Keywords:
soil-structure interaction (SSI), Computational modelling, soft soilAbstract
Structural behavior studies using computational modeling frequently disregard the soil-structure interaction (SSI) considering fixed supports, this simplification can lead to inaccuracies in the structural response and underestimation or overestimation of internal forces, which can lead to design errors. This work analyzes SSI`s influence over the structural response of a low-rise building. SSI consideration was analyzed through continuous numerical methods and the non-consideration through fixed supports, in order to obtain the variation of the internal forces of the structural elements. The generation of interface elements was necessary to simulate the contact between the slab and the ground in the model with interaction. It was determined that the SSI has causes the internal forces of the structural elements to be redistributed, increasing their values in some cases and decreasing in others. Therefore, its effect must be considered in the design of low-rise buildings on deformable soils with shallow foundations.
