EVALUATION OF THE AGGREGATES OF THE WESTERN ZONE OF CUBA FOR APPLICATION ON SLURRY SEALS
Abstract
The search for new road conservation techniques, which will reduce maintenance costs and be environmentally friendly, is essential in the cuban asphalt industry.
The main materials used in the manufacture of slurry seal are mineral aggregate and emulsified asphalt. Hence the importance of proper assessment of aggregates to be used in the manufacture of the slurry. Characteristics such as gradation, affinity, cleaning, wear resistance are priority in aggregates used in slurry seal.
The work provides a bibliographic summary of the main requirements that needs to comply by aggregates for slurry seal, considered in the regulations of different countries, and assesses the compliance with the production of aggregates produced in the western region of Cuba, in relation to these requirements.
From the result of the analysis it is obtained that western aggregates comply with the quality requirements recommended by ISSA, with aggregate gradation only adjusted for the type of sealing II.
